Sunday was International Women's Day 👸🏼 and CDS Part 2 turned out to be a celebration of women in sailing. When I looked at the scratch sheet for California Dreamin' Series in San Francisco, I noticed that five of the eight entries were women skippers, with one being an all-women's team, and two others carrying three women and one man each. Anyone who has looked at a scratch sheet for a major regatta lately knows that this sort of representation among females on the helm and in key positions is still quite rare. For me, it was heartening to see so many of us come out and compete on a very high level -- pretty much all of our races were intense and close-fought, whether against male, female or mixed teams. To top it off, the winner of the regatta was St. Francis "home team" skipper (and a great inspiration to me), Nicole Breault. I'd like to send a huge shoutout to skippers Nicole Breault, Marilyn Cassedy, Liz Hjorth and Stephanie Wondolleck, and all the ladies on the various crews, for being skillful and intense competitors! It was great to sail with you and I'm proud of the showing we made on Women's Day. So why were so many women at this event, and how can we encourage this sort of turnout more often? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Could it be that the structure of match racing makes it easier for women to assemble their own programs? Because the boats are provided by the organizing authority, the cost to enter is low compared to the cost of boat ownership, and the time-cost of ownership and maintenance is eliminated. It will be interesting to see if similar gender balance shakes out in the Premier Sailing League, which will offer a match-like charter structure for its boats. For me, the ability to race and travel without the need to own a boat has been a game changer. Are we just drawn to the intensity of competition in this type of racing? I think all of us would say it's addictive! Would love to hear others' thoughts. 📸 credit: Erik Simonson / H2O shots

A final book was hidden by an Edinburgh book fairy this evening. This copy of The Beauty Myth was hidden outside St Giles Cathedral for someone to find.
About the book: The bestselling classic that redefined our view of the relationship between beauty and female identity. In today's world, women have more power, legal recognition, and professional success than ever before. Alongside the evident progress of the women's movement, however, writer and journalist Naomi Wolf is troubled by a different kind of social control, which, she argues, may prove just as restrictive as the traditional image of homemaker and wife. It's the beauty myth, an obsession with physical perfection that traps the modern woman in an endless spiral of hope, self-consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society's impossible definition of "the flawless beauty." #ibelieveinbookfairies #instabooks #bookobsessed #bookaddict #sharetheloveofreading #bookfairies #bookfairiesworldwide #edinburghbookfairies #bookfairy #thebookfairies #freebook #findme #iwd2020 #internationalwomensday2020 #iwd #internationalwomensday #womensday #feminist #feminism

We're here to build a better world, where any entrepreneur, regardless of their gender, can fuel their future and inspire their community. Our COO & CFO, Bill, took a moment on International Women's Day to reflect on the ladies who inspire him! #FundingtheWonderful

She is gentle like the wind,
But don't you fan her flames.
She is mellow as a flower,
But her strength lies deep in the roots. 🍃
Her heart, as vast as the sky,
Pouring love down in the form of rain.
Her heart, as kind as mother nature,
Nurturing every day, without a second thought.
She is ruthless, she is ambitious.
She is soft, she is tough.
She is a mother, she is a daughter.
She is a wife, she is a sister.
She is the very reason of your existence.
She is everything you'll ever need.
She can make you smile,
She can build a home out of a house. 👩
She is YOU! She is every other woman you find walking, running, struggling each day to be equal, to support her family, to build her identity, to be not just good but the BEST. 💯
Wishing all the beautiful ladies out there, a very happy women's day 2020. May we build each other, may we encourage each other, may we protect each other, may we guide each other to a better path. Let's always stand for each other and teach the world how to do it. Much love! ❤️
