Inconvenience or blessing? Snowmageddon is on its way through Nebraska and we decided to venture out beforehand ... well I guess we now know why. We saw this wallet as we pulled into the parking lot and I couldn’t help but think in hours it could have been covered in snow and plowed away, found and not returned, sent someone back into the blizzard to find it.. all the things. I felt weird even going through it to find a phone number or address. Thankfully his phone number was on a business card as we were ready to go on a 60 mile adventure to return it. He was still in town when we called.. we were able to quickly get it to him and thank him for his service in the army. He of course offered us the cash inside and in no way were we after any reward.. just the joy in returning it to him. I’ll never know if he was in town to get groceries for an elderly parent or friend and trying to get an errand done before the storm but I’m happy to know that he was kind and appreciative. He didn’t even open the wallet. Just trusted us and slipped it into his back pocket and shook my hand. How on earth something so small makes your heart flood with joy — we really didn’t have to go out of our way, we weren’t inconvenienced in any way, but we were willing to be if it arose. It’s something God keeps putting on my heart these days ... the readiness, and willingness to be inconvenienced for someone or something. We as humans tend to jump at an act of kindness when it’s convenient... we live in a world where everything seems to be SO convenient to us, movies for immediate rent on tv, a quick $1 add on donation at PetSmart, fast food, amazon prime you name it! But people and relationships are where things count the most. A 3 hour phone call with a friend who’s going through a messy divorce and needs advice, someone needing your help at the church last minute early on a Saturday morning.. we are so busy that those things seem so inconvenient at times yet it’s in those moments where God is seeing if you will show up. Remember that we are on His time no matter what our schedule says. The most rewarding moments in life are always found on the other side of inconvenience.
