Today is Earth Day, a day to fear for our planet. Our actions as humans is threatening virtually all life on this planet, the product of billions of years of evolutionary trial and error. Climate change has five major impacts on ocean life: warming waters, melting of the poles, rising sea levels, shifts in major ocean currents, and the acidification of seawater. All of these have already or will soon cause severe impacts on marine ecosystems and species. Quickly warming waters affect the often highly specific temperature thresholds of marine life, causing them to shift their distribution or die. This has catastrophic consequences for sessile organisms, especially foundational species like coral and kelp, who cannot move into a cooler refuge. Their loss means the loss of an entire ecosystem. Warming waters also influence developmental cues of certain species that tell them when to develop, spawn, or mate. This shift can throw off highly specific timing for crucial life history events, threatening population crashes for certain creatures. The melting of the polar regions removes the only available habitat for the many species that depend on it, including animals like polar bears, walruses, penguins, seals and many cetaceans. It also removes important habitat for species at the bottom of the Arctic and Antarctic food webs, like algae and krill, threating to cause cascading effects throughout those ecosystems. Happy Earth Day!
We only have one home...Mother Earth takes care of us so generously and unconditionally.
Thinking of ways to improve myself on how I can give back and nurture her too.
I've decreased my plastic and waste production quite significantly over the last 2 years... But always room for improvement.
Lauren Singer has been a huge inspiration for me:
I've decided to commit to 3 focuses to reduce plastic and waste:
-Shop at farmers market each week and bring reusable mesh bags
-Learn how to make my own beauty products
-Limit buying new or buying ethically to limit the pollution from dyes and byproducts
Hope this sparks some ideas to think about what you can do to decrease waste and plastic :) #earthday #reduceplasticwaste #reducewaste #scubadiving #ocean #savetheanimals #earthisourhome

It's amazing, I was a little nervous about the new spot, I could not believe seeing so many animals in one place, dolphins, a whale, manta ray, parrot fish, pelicans and blue-footed boobies, the birds I had always wanted to see, it's amazing I'm with a big smile 😊 thanks to my uncle 🐙 #scubadiving #scuba #islacoronado #amazing #gopro #enjoy #havefun #divemore

Hey earthlings, here are some invertebrate aliens from our very own planet. Happy earth day! Let’s try to keep it habitable for us for a little while longer
Species: western spiny brittle star (the speedy one) and a Dwarf Mottled star (Henricia pumila)
Both are relatives and have tube feet for locomotion. You can see some detail in the brittle star’s tube feet amongst all the spines
