From Jeremy about this image:
4 years of planning and failed attempts at getting this shot of the milky way in the Narrows at Zion.
Hiking in the Narrows at night is a pretty wild experience in itself and after a little over an hour I got to the location I had planned out and I waited with fingers crossed my planning was correct. When I first saw the milky way starting to line up it was a pretty crazy. I only had about 30 minutes of visibility so no time to mess around. Luckily I was able to get a few shots in.
I also got special permission to go out here at night.
Exif: Camera Sony a6000 astromod. Rokinon 12mm.
Tracker: ioptron skyguider pro
Sky: 7 shots 4min exposures at f4 iso 800
Foreground: Single shot 30 seconds f2 iso 1600 light printed with diffused flashlight.

Calymenid trilobites are one of the common trilobite fossils found throughout the Paleozoic rocks of North America. However the soft parts of Calymenes are not well known. This upside down, 4cm pyritized individual gives us a clear and very life-like look at just what was going on under that familiar arthropod carapace. This specimen was found in the same quarry that produces the famous pyritized Triarthrus trilobites with legs and antennae. A few times each season the layers give up a different species we rarely see. While this specimen is one of the best preserved trilobites ever found, it goes even further as it shows a stinking, leathery-like texture in many of the legs giving us an insight to what a trilobite leg texture was really like in life. This one is often referred to as the trilobite mummy. #trilobite #trilobites #fossil #fossils #evolution #evolutionarybiology #marinebiology #biology #science #geology #paleontology #pyrite #amazing #naturalhistory #newyorkfossils #newyork
