1 Corinthians 9:26-27
I feel like I may have already shared these verses, but the thing I love about the bible is the new revelations you get from the same old verses. While the words stay the same, the meaning can come out slightly different each time you read and digest it.
The reason I’ve chosen this verse is because yesterday I completed the True Grit military style obstacle course. As I write this I’m noticing my sore muscles and tender bruises that I got from running, climbing, crawling, carrying and swimming. I literally beat my body into submission for one goal: to get to the end without failing. Even though it took my team and I a little over 2 hours to complete the course, we did it without failure.
While this scripture isn’t about beating our bodies into submission (although it does technically talk about it) it’s a metaphor for living. We should live our lives in discipline. Just like an athlete trains their body and mind for their sport, we as Christians should be training our minds and spirits for the sake of the Kingdom.
Like an athlete gets up early, spends hours on their training, so we as Christians should too. Why would Paul make the comparison? He knew how much athletes trained and prepared. No athlete goes into competition wondering if they’ll win, they go in believing they will because they have spent time in preparation. We as Christians should go into life believing in the power of God because we have read about it and experienced it in our quiet times with Him.
Like an athlete trains for their sport we should train for life. Like an athlete sets aside time for different aspects of preparation, so we should set aside time for different aspects of Christian living. We should set aside time to talk to God, digest His word, look after His people and be the best example we can be.
To be clear I’m not saying you are or aren’t a good Christian if you do or don’t do these things, but if you feel convicted to be more disciplined then I hope you act on it! And if you don’t feel convicted that’s totally okay too! We should simply aim to live a life that is pleasing to God, being disciplined in it and always striving to do and be better.

***If you are concerned or unsure if you are medically stable or to exercise see your doctor *** These are a few points to consider before exercise & is not comprehensive. If you feel your life is in danger exercise should not be a concern.
One of the most commons reasons I’ve heard people don’t exercise is they are unsure if they are medically safe to do so. A few points to make: Almost everyone qualifies for some level of exercise. Next, exercise can tremendously benefit your physical & mental health. So how do you know when not to exercise? Answer: contraindications to do so are called red flags- reasons you are not safe to exercise. These are best understood by individual body systems.
Cardiovascular system red flags important to me are:
1. Do you have unexplained & unpredictable chest pain at rest?
2. Are you out of breath at rest? ...while sitting with no physical activity.
Nervous system red flags important to me are:
1. Have you recently lost control of your bowel or bladder function?
2. Have you recently or all the sudden lost control of finger, toes, arms, or legs?
Pain IS NOT a red flag to me, it is a concern, unless it is so debilitating or due to an emergency; again, see your doctor for direct personal care.
Recent injuries are not always appropriate to exercise with. First, after a surgery you need to check with a doctor & OBEY your movement precautions. Fractures have specific medical guidelines, & exercise may not be okay. If you have had a recent concussion it is not necessarily smart to exercise, again please contact your doc.
Having an active disease, the majority of the time should not stop you from exercising, if you have a program designed & prepared to keep you medically safe, some examples include cancer, asthma, diabetes, & hypertension.
Finally, bring a list of your medications. Most will not prevent you from participating, but they do alter your body’s response & need to be considered.

Weight face on 😭💪! Lol Nothing fancy here brodies, just some assistance lifts going on here. No, I don’t do bicep curls every damn gym session 🤯(mind blowing, right!). They are a single joint movement and therefore classify as my assistant lift for the day. I always have my core movements (bench, squat, barbell rows etc), but will throw AT LEAST 2 assistant lifts in within my workouts. This all depends on the days core movements. Simple hammer curls heree! Keep the scaps (shoulder blade thingys) down, this will limit your upper trap activation, limit any anterior glenohumeral extension (rolling that shizz down), you don’t want any bicep tendonitis, trust me.. Listen, there isn’t much to a damn bicep curl, don’t overthink your favorite lift 🤯 (ego shot brosef). Both the biceps brachii short and long head do the same thing. They cause flexion of the elbow joint, supination, abduction, and internal rotation of the humerus (do some research). I personally prefer taking the muscle to voluntary fatigue to get the hypertrophy I want (move it until it won’t move at all on its own❤️). But, the biggest thing is to just move! Move and don’t stop! Don’t listen to Chad, he’s a tool. Keep on keeping on!

Strength is an important component of power development.
If you want to hit further drives you need to build a foundation of total body strength.
Here is a great single arm row variation we like to incorporate with our golfers.
Performing this movement on a single leg will make this variation harder than your traditional 3-Point row.
Throw this into your next workout and let us know how it goes!

Here’s some of today’s upper body workout.
I have @usarmy combatives class next week so taking it easy 🙇🏽♀️
To be honest I’m not a fan of posting entire workouts. They aren’t “fun” videos to watch because I mostly stick to the basics. There are a lot of posts on here of fancy accessory movements. Isolated exercises are necessary, but focus on getting good at the main compound movements first. This is where you’ll build a lot of your strength because they recruit large muscle groups at once. These include deadlifts, squats, bench press, leg press and hip thrusts... don’t over complicate the process 👊🏽
1. Shoulder press
2. Bench press
3. Straight Arm pulldowns
4. Failed shoulder press 😂
