Taking it back to this time last year in Vava’u Tonga watching baby humpback swim and play along side their mothers in the deep blue of the South Pacific Ocean.
Seriously some of the best moments in my life I’ve spent with a camera in my hands. Did I mention I was a complete crybaby when I encountered my first up close and personal experience with one of these beautiful creatures. My mask fogged up in seconds with tears of joy. Aloha @larrybeard for this epic experience. Looking forward to next years adventure! 🙏🏻 #bealpha

When I was younger
I had this desperate desire to escape
To be someone different, somewhere different
I was resentful of the town I grew up in
The people I knew
The experiences I had growing up
I was convinced I was meant for something more
That I needed a big city and more money and a career in a desirable field and a better sense of style and cooler friends; then I would finally be happy
I moved to NYC and I got a better job and I partied a lot and made a lot of ~friends~
I worked myself to exhaustion to achieve a job title I thought was worthy
I spent hours scrolling though social media & Pinterest to narrow down who I wanted to ~be~
I never nailed the better sense of style aspect but I’ve definitely tried hard as hell to hit all the other points
And years later, I’ve grown to regret not appreciating the simplicity. The grass isn’t always greener. It’s just a different shade of green.
I’ve never been happier than I’ve felt in open spaces
The desert is stripped down
You can see sky for miles. The landscape almost looks unchanging - yet when you look deeper, it’s changing constantly. There is a beautiful stillness in the change though, nothing is rushed or forced.
I didn’t grow up in the desert but I grew up close enough to it.
And now that I’m so far away, my heart aches to be back.
This photo was taken on an insanely hot day in late July and I thought I was going to pass out from heat exhaustion by the time we made it down to the lake. The friend I was with was miserable; but even on the potential brink of needing medical assistance, I was so happy. This was the day I fell in love

BIG news from Tamarack this evening. I will have six pieces in the next exhibit, The Bridges of West Virginia Counties. This is more than I've ever had in any single exhibit before. Flip through to view each individual photo. This exhibit will feature bridges from all over West Virginia. This show will open in late September. I will post more details as the opening date approaches.
