A beautiful group of villages a few kilometers drive from The Blue Sheep Tirthan.
I have been told a million times by all sorts of people that they have covered this valley or that valley in one trip. In case of Tirthan/Seraj region people mostly say, 'We have seen EVERYTHING, Sareolsar lake, Jalori Pass, Bahu, Chhoi falls, Sarchi.' In case of Spiti they'll say, 'We have seen Chandratal lake, Key gompa, Kaza, EVERYTHING!' You can imagine what they say about Ladakh!
I'm not sure whether it's because they don't know that what they think are the 'main spots' of the region is just the tip of the iceberg or they simply are there ticking places off of an imaginary list, but this notion seems very naive to say the least.
Take this place as an example. Most of the famous places in the valley do not stand a chance in front of this magical group of villages. As of now there is no tourism, no traffic in this place and most probably 99% of people coming to Tirthan or Seraj have not seen it. Just like this there are litterally a hundred more villages that will blow anyone's mind to smithereens.
To travel and to explore means a lot more than going to the famous places in a region. It means asking the natives about their favorite village, their favorite spot in the region and having the courage to set off on an adventure. It means refusing to give into the doubt that maybe it won't be as beautiful as the place you've seen on Instagram posted by your favourite bloggers. It means taking a chance to see a new place, a new experience without feeling any regret that maybe the famous place would have been more beautiful than this. It means taking a walk, a drive on a random road, a random trail without a sign board.
You are sure to end up in a magical place, one where you won't have meet any tourist taking a million selfies, and the locals will be happily surprised to welcome a stranger among them, maybe for the first time .
