Yes, Craig just drove 1/4 mile down the driveway to make a path for me to drive home. Maybe he needs a snowplow for his birthday next week.

I hiked up Mt. Olympus just outside of Salt Lake City on Feb 9th after snowshoeing to Doughnut Falls. It turned into more of an adventure than I planned on. I knew it was 3.5 miles miles and 4,200 feet of elevation gain from the trailhead to the summit, but from what I had read online there is usually a packed trail all the way to the top. Apparently nobody had been past the saddle about 600 ft below the summit since the last big snow storm. I didn't take my snow shoes and ended up wading and digging my way through waist to chest deep snow and doing a little class 4 scrambling to reach the summit. It was exhausting, I almost turned back a few times but I just kept talking myself into going a little farther and a little farther and eventually I was on the summit. My phone died about 20 minutes before I made it to the summit but it was snowing pretty hard by then and you couldn't see much anyway.
This peak is number 11 on my 40 by 40 list, 29 more to go and only 459 days to get it done.

Here’s a big buck we had on camera last fall. Going to be a good one for us next year!

A little public land squirrel hunt with the wife and kiddo. No squirrels in the bag but some cool sightings and good times. #keepitpublic

Every deer is different. Every hunt is different. Sharing stories, moments, and raw emotion about hunting with others is a timeless bond. ⠀
There is nothing more satisfying than a successful hunt for yourself, but sharing the moment with a loved on is pretty close. ⠀
Although I did not tag a buck this year, I was a part of my brother’s buck, Dad’s buck, and my cousin’s first buck. ⠀
These moments are what I live for, and will never forget. ⠀

The Surf Perch beat us today, but I found the cutest baby Elephant Seal with it’s momma, a waterfall, spent some time outside with my favorite person, and even got to treat myself to some of the best ice cream on the coast. Maybe I’m winning after all🤔

No shots fired for me over the last week. Not from a gun anyway. Spent the last part of the week with @HuntersHelpingHeroes and @SnowAddictionsGuideService holding a camera and hanging with some SOLID company.
Hunting these white birds has been rough all over and no matter what you throw at them, they still will make you feel like “less of a man” when they’re done with you. I’m not even an amateur but I know the difference between tough hunting and tough learning. I hope my truck bed or one of my buddy’s looks like this next time we go. I honestly hope you can’t see the bed for the geese. Realistically that’s probably not going to be the case, but I assure you it won’t be for lack of effort. Here’s to the weekend that hasn’t made it here yet.

Whether you volunteered, dropped by the art show in Reno, or came out to the Spring Mountains - thank you for celebrating Public Lands Day with us this month! Keep reading for an on-the-ground testimonial from one of our wonderful Desert Refuge project volunteers @chellyfaye who worked on Gass Peak Trail!

I have always wondered how a trail becomes a trail. Today, I was given the opportunity to be a part of that. I love hiking and it has become not just a hobby but my passion. We had to make the trail as enjoyable as possible for fellow hikers. We had to dig a few inches for vegetation to be possible on the edges to make it look more like a trail. The scorching Vegas heat didn’t make it easy at all but I enjoyed every bit of it! and I got to meet pretty awesome people who also love nature and hiking. Thank you @friendsofnvwild ! Happy National Public Lands day! What did you do today? p.s I totally forgot the name of the tool i’m holding.. 😂

NEW PODCAST! On this episode, I'm joined by @southafrica77 who is a native South African who is now rooted in Mississippi. Robbie started @bloodorigins when he didn't think that normal outdoor television was portraying the whole story of who we are as hunters and people. Robbie just returned from Denmark on what sounded like a truly remarkable hunt while taking in the international hunting culture and ways of life. I really enjoy listening to Robbie talk about his vision on telling the entire story of inspirational people in the hunting industry and beyond.

I hope everyone is having a great president's day and getting out to enjoy their public lands! "The nation behaves well if it treats its natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired, in value"

Last week, these eight hardy trail workers from the American Conservation Experience (ACE) completed a hitch in the Silver Peak Wilderness. Led by Trevor Willits (VWA Stewardship Program Coordinator), this crew performed brushing and treadwork along the Cruikshank Trail. Despite all-night rains, stormy days, hail storms, high winds, and a "mucky" camp, the crew made significant improvements to the trail AND had a great time. Many thanks to ACE and Trevor for their great work and thanks to Neraida LLC and the National Forest Foundation for funding this effort.

During the time of his presidency Theodore Roosevelt established 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, four national game preserves, five national parks and 18 national monuments on over 230 million acres of public land. Since then there has been significant growth to the public lands that belong to you and I. This growth can be attributed to the Presidents and organizations that have dedicated their time and efforts to maintaining our lands and waters for our fish and wildlife and to keep wild places that belong to us accessible to public land owners like you and I.

Keep it light.
That time we tried to get Toby to sit on a log with the pile. Fast forward, it didn’t happen.
It’s one of the things that draws me to waterfowl over my strong deer hunting past, the camaraderie. It’s a situation that can become easily stressful. Long strenuous walks in, lack of sleep, the unknowns that accompany every hunt so it helps to keep the situations light. Come join us in the swamp and there’s a chance you’ll leave with some sore ab muscles.

The Great Egret watches over a tranquil marsh at Pinckney Island NWR
Seems like a fitting photo for President's Day, as it was President Theodore Roosevelt who created the first wild life refuge in 1903 to protect bird species, like the Great Egret, which were being killed by the thousands so their feathers could be used in ladies headwear. .
A lot of good has come for our wildlife and wild places since then. A lot still needs to be done. This week S.47 or Natural Resources Management Act goes before the House of Representatives. I encourage all of you to reach out to your elected officials and ask them to pass this Act.

The term “Public Lands” didn’t mean much to me until I spent an entire summer camping out on National Forests all throughout Michigan. At this point in my life I knew I had to do something to protect & support them. I joined The West Virginians for Public Lands campaign, the backcountry hunters & anglers, & Artemis. I was oblivious & had no idea there were so many incredible people out there already fighting for our rights to explore, hunt, fish & be free. I’m ecstatic to announce if you haven’t already heard LWCF (The Land & Water Conservation Fund) has been permanently reauthorized by the Senate! Around this time last year @briancrabill & I were in the crazy city of Washington D.C talking with representatives... I’d like to give a Huuuuuge shout out to Manchin & Capito for jumping on board & supporting the fund that supports SO many projects that will touch my life & future generations! #saveLWCF .
