GATE WAY OF INDIA =
The Gateway of India is one of India's most unique landmarks situated in the city of Mumbai. The colossal structure was constructed in 1924. Located at the tip of Apollo Bunder, the gateway overlooks the Mumbai harbor, bordered by the Arabian Sea in the Colaba district. The Gateway of India is a monument that marks India's chief ports and is a major tourist attraction for visitors who arrive in India for the first time. At one point of time, this monument represented the grandeur of the British Raj in India. The total construction cost of this monument was approximately 21 lakhs and the whole expense was borne by the Indian government. A favourite spot for tourists, nowadays, this monument attracts vendors, food stalls and photographers. The passing of the 'First Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry' was recorded as the first main event that took place at the Gateway of India. This ceremony was conducted on February 28, 1948, when the last set of British troops and divisions left India, post-independence.
The main objective behind the construction of the Gateway of India was to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay (Mumbai). In March 1911, Sir George Sydenham Clarke, who was then the Governor of Bombay, laid down the monument's first foundation. Although, this plan was approved only in 1914, the reclamations at Apollo Bunder were completed only in 1919. The architectural design of Gateway of India was fashioned by architect, George Wittet. It took 4 years to complete this monument's construction.

Many of you followed my journey as I sponsored a bill as a State Representative to ensure people being detained in jails could vote and making sure people exiting our state prisons knew their voting rights were restored.
The bill passed, but the previous Governor vetoed it. I passed it on to amazing leaders @repchriswelch and @senatoraquino, who got it over the finish line, followed by @govpritzker signing it into law.
Tomorrow, I visit Cook County Jail as it officially becomes it’s own precinct. Men and women will be able to vote at an on-site polling place, the first of its kind in the nation.
People detained in our jails have not been convicted and deserve access to the ballot. And as voter suppression efforts continue, we must fight for #votingrights with everything we have.
Thank you, @chicagovotes, @acluofil, @chicagocivilrights and so many others who fought so hard for this day. I am so very proud of our coalition. You inspire me.
By the way, still too many people lingering on our jails due to poverty. But for now, they can vote. #history #justice

Suddenly your in a Dystopian nonfiction future... masquerading sexism and racism still haven't been figured out. Just look at The #Hunger, the political conflicts still lead to war and #corruption and now it's never questioned. Time for a badass woman with a powerful punch. The riots around the world that are so racially tense in this film–echoing disturbing images of plantation slaves– not explicitly about race in books. I find it rather naïve to believe that humanity will progress so far in terms of gender and racial equality only to succumb to a #biggovernment that tramples everyone’s rights. #History shows that this is not how #dictatorships work. Equally frustrating is how rarely politicians actually make real progress in general, this goes beyond white, Western experience. Even if the #WhiteHouse remains a #superpower and American #corporations continue to #dominate us like a dominatrix on bad steroids controlling much of the markets, it's possible the world will continue to exist...but untethered in #disaster we shouldn't ignore that.
Imagine my joy when I discovered a better way #Masquerading as a sci-fi thriller, a fantastic possibility is actually possible..with #intelligentsia, political without being polemical. Beautifully presented, it neatly folds complex ideas about gender, race and ethnicity into the plot, giving solutions, acknowledging that in a broken #future there’s no reason to assume that our understanding of one another will be any less broken...so we should fix it.
This #movie takes place in your mind a couple centuries from now. #Geneticallymodified fruits and vegetables are the only kind available, the word “natural” has lost all meaning, calorie #companies control the #globalfoodmarket, gas-fueled vehicles belong only to the mega-wealthy or the military, and electricity is provided by spring-based power and the transfer of kinetic energy. This post is one of the last bastions of independence from the world calorie companies, corporations whose aggression and power echo today’s tobacco and oil industries.
The issues of #climatechange, #ecology, and the future of #humanity’s #food and energy are central to our survival..

When The Who booked their appearance on “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” on September 15, 1967, they’d just notched their first U.S. Top 10, “I Can See For Miles.” The group, which was famously known for its destructive outbursts, performed that single but also wanted to go out with a bang - literally - with an unpredictable performance of “My Generation.” •
• “The Smothers Brothers had a fairly radical show at the time and they bravely asked us if we could destroy our instruments,” Pete Townshend once recalled in an interview about the incident. ”Keith Moon persuaded the pyro-technician on the show to make a cannon, which he put inside his drum. And in the rehearsal it went bang, but it kind of made a lot of smoke and a bit of a dull thud. And Keith said, ‘Listen, you must increase the charge.’” •

St Mary's Cemetery in the Island in #chennai The pretty pink #flowers hide its state of disrepair. The #cemetery was built in the 1760s. Among the famous people buried here are #poet Laurence Hope. She lived in #India with her father and husband Col. Malcolm Nicolson. She wrote the poem Kashmiri song with these famous verses "Pale hands I loved beside the Shalimar,
Where are you now? Who lies beneath your spell?
Whom do you lead on Rapture's roadway, far,
Before you agonise them in farewell?"
