This is a Monday morning practice for me. Starts off a little rough, but then smooths out ☺️

Two Presses on opposing sides of the spectrum. Both have the same end result but follow a very different path.
The first is the planche press which prioritizes body extension. In order to accomplish this, the shoulders must lean very far forward adding a horizontal element to the movement.
The second clip is the typical straddle press. When I perform this, my main priority is to keep a vertical line in the shoulders. In order to minimize forward lean(there will almost always be some lean) the body needs to compress to stay close to the verical line.
I enjoy the opposition between the two movements. Leaning forward to keep the body straight versus pressing down to maintain compression. Heel drive to handstand versus hips up. One joint movement versus multiple joints. Strength versus efficiency.
As far as learning curve planche press is generally considered much more difficult due to the high strength demands, but the straddle press can be very technical.
Which one is your favorite?
On another note, I'm glad to see I still have the muscle memory for that planche press. It has been some time and after sustaining a wrist injury last year I had to go easy on planche work for a while. I've been slowly building the strength back recently.
Anyway, you can learn more about press handstands and their variations at my events all over the world.

It was such a nice day today so super excited to get to take my canes to the park to play today on this St Patrick’s day (and yes I wore my socks all day, even when running errands with my boys). This is what I thought my park time would be versus swipe to see what it mostly ended up being. But I love more what it ended up being. Having my 13 year old son voluntarily hanging out with me even if just to tease me and test my focus skills warms my heart and makes me smile. My boys give me a perspective on life that I may never have found without them.

What else would I do in snowy Lake Tahoe but tear off my clothes and press some handstands?
Thanks @yoginizem for the wonderful weekend.

~”striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted”🌱
these are starting to feel so consistent.
this video was on number 7 in a row.
my handstand felt strong, so I tried
to play a bit, but my wrists didn’t agree😂
while this is an amazing accomplishment,
I have been neglecting other areas
of my practice while working on presses.
I’m excited for this challenge starting
tomorrow to get back into my flow.~

The moments when your about to give up are the moments we grow most. Don’t fear those times of stress but embrace them, know that you’ll learn from your mistakes and try your hardest either way! 💙

I'm still on the way to polish HS press technique... první špicar jsem dal někdy před rokem a tím jsem si myslel, že už to mam a hotovo, ale to je pěkná blbost, je to nejen o flexibilitě kyčlí, ale i ramen a důležitou roli hraje aktivní flexibilita a tím, že jsem s tím začal až 37letech tak to beru jako úspěch, že ještě není pozdě #stojkujainspiruj #handstand #handstandpress #handstandpressdrill

the exchange may only be
a few short moments,
it is that lingering sweetness
which can unknowingly bring
the exact light one needs

|| WALL WORK || Here are three of my favourite ways to use the wall for handstand strength, endurance and alignment. Hit save on this video and add these to your next practice. 🤸🏻♂️💃🏼✌🏼
1️⃣ Kick up with your back facing the wall. Bend one leg, so the toes can gently grace the wall. Keep the other leg straight and use it to find your line. Then as you engage the body, shift weight into the fingers tips, you might find that the toes are able to ‘flirt’ with the wall, coming away little by little to find balance.
2️⃣ Walk up with your chest facing the wall. Drop the head to allow your straight line to be found with a little more ease. Engage glutes, quads, feet. Push the ground away through your hands. Again, you might find that the feet can float away from the wall to balance, but no worries if not. Just stay engaged and hold. Both 1 and 2, I hold for 45 seconds, rest and do 5-10 sets.
3️⃣ Negative straddle press. Slowly lowering to the ground, with control, trying not to bend my elbows as my feet get closer to the floor. My mobility allows me to bring my legs super close into my body, so if you have that openness, try to fold in as much as possible as you lower.
Enjoy! 🤸🏻♂️🤸🏻♂️🤸🏻♂️ #catmeffanyoga
