The simplistic, Western notion of my ‘body’ as a physical structure is inadequate when trying to convey the complexity of what I truly am. I believe this leads to lack of appreciation for the wondrous intricacy. As a result, superficiality and insecurity arise. The body is portrayed to be an object that has to be tamed. So many of us are caught up with the surface because we don’t have the language to convey the wonders that lie beneath. .
In Chinese culture, the body is viewed in various complex parts. To appease our ‘science-based’ western brains however, I want to tell you some facts to let this complexity set in. The nerve impulses within you travel as fast as 170 MPH. Your brain operates on the same amount of power as a 10watt light bulb. The human brain cell can hold up to 5x as much information as the encyclopedia, yet 80% of the brain is water. All of the material within you originates from residual stardust, and finds its way into plants, then nutrients, and back to you. YOUR body is MORE than just a ‘BODY.” .
The taoists made note of how nature governs without effort. The sun moves effortlessly through space, the trees effortlessly blossom and fruit, the baby effortlessly forms in the mother’s womb. This reflects in the garden of Orient, which was organized, but accommodative. Flexible, but not seeking to transform nature to some ideal, rather, to improve on what nature has already provided. This effortlessness became the paradigm for how to govern the self and others.
In contrast, the Western garden has favored and unfavored plants. The unfavored plants — weeds — eradicated. Gardens were ordered, and shaped. The west fulfills this in portraying a human-like ruler leading a rebellious and resistant nature, forcing it to conform. This translates into how individuals in the west tend to rule over their bodies, which are perceived to be resistant, wrong, sinful, in need of change and control. .
I’m here to tell you the truth. The only thing in need of change and control is this paradigm. The body is made to self-govern effortlessly and excellently. Despite cultural influence, ALWAYS remember that you are more than just a ‘BODY.’ Live freely 🌺

✨When you look at your reflection, what do you see? ⠀
🤦♀️Do you see every imperfection, flaw, and insecurity? OR do you see the beauty? ⠀
💥Your perception of yourself will create the foundation for the rest of your life… and it will either be significantly strong or extremely weak. ⠀
🌻In this moment, my challenge to you is this: go look at your reflection in the mirror. Say this aloud: “You are a living, breathing, beautiful work of art. Who you are in this very moment is good enough.”⠀

So the hubs and I are super traditional when it comes to our #weddinganniversary Each year when thinking of the perfect gift, we always reference the traditional guide. So for this year being our 7th, the gift of choice is something copper! Yes, copper which if you haven’t made it to your 7th yet, go ahead and start looking because it’s so hard to find something! But my hubs never disappoints, he took the time to find someone local that does handmade jewelry and designed this necklace and earring set for me! I swear ya’ll, he’s the BEST! Just love this man of mine. Not sure how I got so lucky to have such a thoughtful man in my life. 😘😘😘

I’m feeling kinda okay about my body today. I started watching this tv show called Drop Dead Diva and it’s got a lot about body positivity in it and it’s just really been boosting my confidence. The first couple episodes could be a little triggering for some people but after that it’s really amazing. I’m hanging out with a friend today and I’m highkey pumped because I’m actually doing something for once!! I’m really trying to stay positive and stay on top of things.
Food has been kinda hard lately. Mostly meat has been the issue. I’ve always kinda struggled with it, because of texture, taste, how much you need to chew it and also the whole undercooked meat stuff. I finished a hamburger last night that did not taste good to me and a salad and I felt so sick afterward. I’m keeping up with my food, like I’m not falling behind but it feels like my parents don’t feel the same way. My hunger cues have just been so off recently which is understandably with the break up and finals coming up. I’m really ready for this year to be over and so I can work. I don’t know but I am really trying.

If I could kill a word and watch it die
I'd poison never, shoot goodbye
Beat regret when I felt I had the nerve
Yeah, I'd pound fear to a pile of sand
Choke lonely out with my bare hands
I'd hang hate so that it can't be heard
If I could only kill a word

I used to devour hundreds of magazine articles about “how to dress for your body type”.
What to wear when you have wide hips/small boobs/a flat butt or whatever the eff they tell us is wrong with our bodies.
When I see an article like this today I’m like “girl bye!” 👋🏻 We are allowed to wear whatever the fuck makes us happy.
Don’t let anyone shame you for your body, no matter what body you’re in.
I purged my closet a few weeks ago and realized that most of my clothes were black.
Needless to say, I used to fall for the “how to dress to look slimmer” BS.
My closet now is a good mix of colours and neutrals and it feels great to wear what makes me happy ☺️
I hope this “tutorial” on how to dress for your body type was helpful 😬😘
Let’s all make a pact to not fall for those kinds of articles anymore!
Our uniqueness needs to be celebrated, not shamed.
Sending you all so much love on this Friday!
You are allowed to eat whatever the heck you want to eat this weekend.
Same goes for Monday too and any other day.
Food freedom and body acceptance go hand in hand so I want you to remember that and enjoy yourself ❤️

This is my body, a body that has been hated most of its life, and it has endured a lot: a lot of hate, a lot of pain, violent rape, eating disorders, abuse, bullying, racism, and all the other negativities life threw at it. Growing up the only non-white girl in a small Iowan town, I grew up to hate the skin I wore, constantly being bullied for my big hair, lips, nose, eyes, skin color- everything that made me who I was. I did not fit in, and I hated my body for making me stand out like a sore thumb and being a constant reminder that I did not belong in my community, heck, even in my own family. As I aged, I found other reasons to hate it as well. I tortured my body, spoke negatively towards it, refused to take care of it, refused to feed it, deprived it, and hid it. Yet, I slowly have come to love and accept every part of it. I also understand that I am more than just my body; before anything, I am a kind, open, intelligent, and genuine soul. I am not sharing some background to gather sympathy or claim I had it rough, because I believe that all life, including my own, is extraordinarily beautiful. I simply want to remind everyone that although we all have reasons to hate our bodies, learning to love yours despite everything, is freeing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*Also, even though this doesn't define me, for reference, this isn't my lowest weight. I had lost around 40 pounds following high school, and I am currently about 10-15 pounds heavier than that lightest. I am now at a more sustainable healthy weight/body fat (around 19%).
Also I promise not every post will be this long or deep, but thank you to those that read. Always, and of course, you can message me if ever needed.
