1 month ago I attended the announcement of winners and official opening of the Australian Geographic Nature Photograoher of the Year competition at the @southaustralianmuseum in Adelaide last night and I was delighted to learn that this image of mine titled ‘King Pair Conversation’ was awarded runner-up in the Monochrome category.
The judges’ comments were: ‘A surprising and creative composition, there is humour in the cartoon-like quality of the penguins. Facing each other in complementary positions, the shapes are projected on an interesting textured matrix that has a subtlety, thanks to the use of monochrome’.
The photo was taken on assignment for @oceanwideexp in 2018 at Salisbury Plain on South Georgia Island.
It was a fun night and well done to @viewmypixels Mat Beetson as the overall winner and to all those who have photos in the exhibition. Three other Antarctic photos (I was the sole Antarctic nature ‘representative’!) of mine are also finalists in the exhibition which will be at the South Australian Museum until 10 November and also at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney (in partnership with the Australian Museum) until 20 October.
