I love collaborating with clients to create a unique painting that speaks to their soul. Something they will see each day as they come into the room that lights them up and provides momentum for their day. This is a piece I created for @annalbirch and her family. She showed me the grey of her wall and said she wanted something that represented her family. I focused on their outdoor activities, their energy, and their penchant for doing things together. Amazingly, it was six months later when a houseguest pointed out to her that the word "family" was visible in the piece! Totally unintended... and absolutely perfect for them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Want a #jensterlingart of your own? I would love to work with you to bring the perfect piece to your home!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

"Squirrel Butt." Been having a lot of fun drawing digitally lately. If you are ever interested in learning how to create art using your own digital pencils, I highly recommend checking out @svslearn! My buddy @willterryart is a pro at pencil drawing and is an A+ teacher! SVS is honestly my number 1 favorite online school out there! Ever since I took the Digital Pencils course, I have started to get much more comfortable drawing directly in Photoshop. I still prefer a HB pencil, but being able to get the same feel digitally is a huge accomplishment.

For the last few weeks, I've been closely following Ryan @skanwoods' stories - he has an amazing way of explaining wood movement, tool maintenance (a craft unto itself), finish application, and a ton of other nuances I'd never considered.
In doing so, I finally confronted the fact that I greatly neglect tool maintenance, mostly because my shoptime has been limited of late. Last night, it became apparent that my thickness planer knives were as dull as butter knives (second pic). Rather than shell out $40 for a new set, I took a couple hours to take apart the cutters, inspect for nicks, clean the housing, and sharpen the knives with this jig I picked up a year ago - cuts better than new now. It's not a huge step, but it was an important one for me. Thanks for indirectly guilting me into slowing down and doing it right, Ryan 🤓

Graphite on Stonehenge - 36" x 18"
Archeology and the story of lost civilizations absolutely fascinates me. That was once the present age for those anchient people; that was their beautiful city, their community, and their echoes of laughter. They believed; as do we in this present day, that stability would carry along for an eternity.
Than something happened.
Peak oil. Our current civilization is under the umbrella of prosperity as long as oil is available as a resource. It supplies energy to power cities and agriculture, products, and (aside from nuclear marine propulsion) powers all methods of transportation. However, oil is a non renewable resource and the minds of future generations have an inescapable obstacle when the resource runs out. Discover, invent, and use new forms of energy as a substitute or fade back to the days of steam and coal.
A thousand years from now if there isn't a solution all that will remain of our current age will be found underneath.
The second (taken by my friend Val) and third image with my drawings blurred in the background is at F.A.M. Shoutout to Angela that did the curation under a tight time slot. Remarkable. The art displayed provided a backdrop for a fashion event and a dance - all forms of wonderful! Please visit Angela's page @angelaportrait to show some love to her beautiful paintings. Follow the journey of an artistic heart that selflessly participates in giving back to the community through her ecletic humanitarian endeavors. Thx! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
