This may sound cliché coming from an herbalist, but I love plants. Even the ones not written / taught/ recognized as having medicinal values for humans. Orchids are really fascinating and quite ancient. There’s speculation their origin goes back 100 millions years (at-least 15 million with evidence.) Many of them have evolved to attract a very specific insect for pollinations, so if that insect goes extinct 😿 They have a pretty cool relationship with fungi I don’t fully understand yet -depending on it for germination since their seed doesn’t have an endosperm which typically provides seeds nutrients for sprouting. Anyways, blahblahimboringblah, the flowers are just insane. Seriously go google an owl orchid. Vanilla is in this family 💗 #favflavor 💗 It wasn’t until moving away from subtropical Florida that I feel in love with this #Orchids. Glad I have, I feel they’re calling me home.

I feel the exact same way about plants I grew up with in Florida as a kid like magnolia, grapefruit, gardenia, potato vines, peach etc. I enjoyed all of these plant friends , played with them, appreciated them without physically knowing their names but knowing their souls. And now in my life coming back into contact with them and re remembering the experiences and saying wait a minute I remember you.. Closest thing to magic for me 🌸

Neat! I didn't know that about orchids and fungi. Also an ex-Floridian here and the thing I miss the most is having citrus trees. So wish I could grow my own citrus anything! Ooh, I'd devour a grapefruit right now😋
