What better place for a #PerceivedValue podcast recording than right here in the gallery at @centerforartinwood! A fascinating conversation between Morgan Hill and Sarah Rachel Brown took place with Morgan’s “Collecting Women,” made during her time as a Fellow on the Windgate ITE Residency Program, installed beside them. Looking forward to a great @perceivedvalue episode! And “Collecting Women” is now part of the Center’s permanent collection, thanks to Morgan’s generous donation. @morganhillcreative @sarahrachelbrown #windgateite #centerforartinwood #collectingwomen #torchwood #contemporarywoodsculpture #craftnowphl #podcast #🎙

#currentmood #ibelievejudith #ibelieveartemesia #ibelievesurvivors #democracydiesindarkness #VOTE #november62018. *****It might help to note that in every one of Artemesia Gentileschi’s (1593–1653) paintings on this theme, she—herself a survivor of rape—depicted Judith and her maid working together on this improbable mission; though the apocryphal account of this happening posits Judith as the hero, Gentileschi’s compositions consistently show the two as accomplices working in unison. We could follow suit... #strongertogether #artemesiagentileschi #judithandholofernes #arthistoryhastheanswers

So excited for tonight’s #ObjectLesson at The Center for Art in Wood, where noted design historian, curator, and writer Sarah Archer will speak about #matryoshka in the Center’s permanent collection. Looking forward to answers to such questions as: what are the traditions from which matryoshka emerged? Who makes these turned wood objects? And why do I love them so much? Full disclosure: the matryoshka in this photo are from my own collection; in order to see the nesting dolls in the Center’s collection, you’ll have to show up by 5:30 today! And then check out the other stops in today’s @designphilly #designcrawl! @centerforartinwood @sarcherize #woodturning #culturalobjects #nestingdolls #philadelphiadesign

Yakov (Willi) Bloch z”l was an artist, craftsman, teacher, friend, and devout man; it might be said that he was more soul than human. His quiet nature and unassuming personality made him a remarkable instructor, and his imprint is borne by the generations of his students, both in the courses he taught at Bezalel Academy or in his small Jerusalem studio that was overflowing with drawings, paintings, projects in mid-process, maquettes, tools, metal bits, materials of all substances, and books. It was an astounding experience to present his works in exhibitions I organized as @inter_alia_projects, and to learn from him. He was taken from us far too soon—before realizing so many art works, ideas, visions, and instruction—and we are deprived of his gentle, imaginative, inspiring spirit and skilled hands. Rest In peace, Willi. We will never forget you. (Seen here is “David and Goliath”, 2014, a wearable piece made of copper, silver, and paper that was inspired by biblical archetypes, signifying inner and outer strengths).
